Expeditie Vinkeveen Deze foto is al
weer een paar jaar oud. In die periode was dit voor mij een avontuur! Nu
heb ik inmiddels al enige helmduiken gemaakt, en ook op allerlei
bijzondere plekken gedoken. Iedereen die al een poosje meedraait kent het
wel. Eerst binnenwater, dan buitenwater, dan in de winter, 's nachts. Tot
er een tijd komt dat je ook in het buitenland gaat duiken. Iedereen heeft
zo zijn eigen stekkies. Met mijn hoofdbuddy (Caroline) dook ik in
Griekenland, Portugal, Frankrijk, België, Marokko, Mexico, Ierland,
Schotland, Nederland, Oostenrijk, Italië, Malediven en op Kreta. Met vrienden daarna
ook nog in Luxemburg, Duitsland. This picture is a few years old now. In that period helm diving was a big adventure to me! Now I have made several helm dives and also dived on various and remote places. All diving for several year know how it works, first initial training then diving in the night under ice. Later you start diving in other countries. Everyone has has spots on the earth he likes most. I have been diving with my best Buddy Caroline in Greece, Portugal, France, Belgium, Marroco, Mexico, Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, Austria, Italy, Maldives, Crete and Egypt Luxembourg and Germany. After all these dives you think you have seen it all. That is until you contact other divers in the world through the internet. You will find people searching for deeper Wrecks, more remote destinations or almost impossible spots to dive. This page is about this people. They are not diving, they plan expeditions! |

Lees hier het spannende verslag hoe een
team van Europese duikers onder leiding van Reinhard Buchaly en Michael
Waldbrenner de prestatie van Oliver Islers van 1998 verbeteren. Het oude
record grotpenetratie naar 4300 meter wordt door dit team op 9 Augustus
2001 gebroken en op 5000 meter gezet. De duik werd uitgevoerd met Halcyon
rebreathers waarvan de duikers er elk twee! van bij zich hadden. Een grandioze
prestatie, en een spannend avontuur! Ook een Nederlander was hierbij
betrokken!

In 1999 is een fraaie duik gemaakt op
de Lusitania. Dit wrak in Ierland op 93 meter werd bedoken onder leiding

Expedities? Hoe organiseer ik die? Telkens als je deze fantastische verhalen leest krijg ik de neiging aan zoiets deel te nemen. Helaas ontbreekt mij het aan tijd, en ook vaak aan de middelen. Maar ja, wie weet. Soms vallen dingen uit de lucht. Van Bruce Dunton kreeg ik een prachtige site met een groot aantal expedities, en hoe je zoiets moet aanpakken. Hier een draaiboek. |

Gezonken op 28 November 1916 als hospitaalschip nabij Griekenland, behoort de Britannic tot een van de meest spraakmakende scheepswrakken. Na 60 jaar opnieuw ontdekt door Jacques Cousteau in 1976 is het slechts een klein aantal topduikers gelukt dit wrak te beduiken. 1976 Jacques Cousteau |

Lees hier het schokkende relaas van 800 mannen vrouwen en kinderen die op 23 Februari 1942 stierven. Dit vergeten verhaal leidde tot een expeditie onder leiding van Greg Buxton naar de Zwarte Zee. In Augustus 2000 heeft een team technische duikers op 78 meter diepte het wrak de STRUMA bedoken. Hiermee ging een wens van de organisator in vervulling. Hij dook hiermee op de rustplaats van zijn grootouders. Ter afsluiting van deze expeditie zijn herdenkingsdiensten gehouden is de laatste eer aan de overledenen bewezen. Een fantastisch verhaal, een trieste geschiedenis.

Het Italiaanse schip de Andrea Doria behoord tot een van de meest spraakmakende wrakken van de USA. Voor de Oostkust van Amerika vergaan op 26 juli 1953 behoort de Doria voor vele duikers tot een enorme uitdaging. Dit schip ligt op ca 240-250 ft diepte en kan in principe alleen met trimix of rebreathers bedoken worden. In 1996 waren er helaas nog drie duikers die met lucht deze diepte bedoken. Zij kunnen het helaas niet meer navertellen. Vanuit de gehele wereld worden vele expedities op dit wrak ondernomen. De onderstaande links hebben betrekking op de geschiedenis van het wrak en er is 1 link naar een organisatie die voor trimix duikers trips organiseert.

Eind juni 2001 werd een expeditie uitgevoerd op de P&O liner Egypt. Het schip ligt op 125 meter diepte in de golf van Biskaje. Gezonken in 1922 met 10 ton zilver, en 5 ton goud aan boord is er uiteraard al enorm veel moeite gedaan deze buit te bemachtigen. Op de foto links ziet U dan ook de meest efficiente manier waarop het goud en zilver werd geborgen. Een kleine 1 bar bathyscaaf werd neergelaten op het dek. Hiermee werden aanwijzingen gegeven hoe een grote grijper explosieven op het dek moest leggen. Daarna werden de wrakdelen stukje bij beetje opgeblazen tot de 3e laag onder het dek werd blootgelegd. Voor de 2001 expeditie viel niet veel goud meer te halen. Er waren nog wel wat restjes...

Pearse Resurgence New Zealand 2001 Voor het eerste bedoken in 1975 waren de Pearse grotten reden voor het maken van een documentaire in 1995. Helaas kwam hierbij een van de teamleden om. Deze duiker werd in 1997 door de volgende expeditie gevonden. In 2001 werd een vervolg expeditie gehouden. Om deze zeer afgelegen plek te bereiken zijn helicopters nodig om bij de ingang van de grot te komen. |

| The expedition, led by 'submarine-hunter'
Innes McCartney, will be the first attempt by technical divers to survey
and identify the wrecks of German U-Boats scuttled by the Allies after
WWII in the waters north of Ireland. There are 54 submarines which lie within the depth reachable using today's technical diving equipment and methods, and it is believed that the wrecks of these vessels, sunk during Operation Deadlight, could in future be seen as one of the world's greatest naval heritage sites and compared to such locations as Bikini Atoll, Scapa Flow and Truk Lagoon. |

In October 2001, a unique expedition to the Galapagos was arranged between The Shark Research Institute (Field Director: Dr Alex Antoniou), C2 Educational Expeditions (Group Leader Cliff Simoneau) and O2 Technical Diving (Training Director John Garvin). The mission: To satellite tag and collect tissue samples from Whale Sharks off the island of Darwin, located 170 miles South West of the main Archipelago. To achieve the above, we were hoping to use the latest in Closed Circuit Rebreather technology. The team consisted of 12 divers in total; all of them already experienced Semi Closed circuit rebreather divers. It was my job to introduce the research team to the benefits of using closed circuit technology. I was to train the shark taggers and film crew on how to use the Buddy Inspiration rebreather, in the hope that they would then be able to extend their available bottom time therefore increasing the number of shark encounters.
