The BG174 is equipped with a warning device. The warning signal flaps are
normally not activated when the counterlung is filled. The moment the
counterlung is empty, the unit will produce a ‘musical, tone pneumatical
generated by a valve.

Added 15 september 2004:
intermediate pressure from the valve group
regulator forces( via a small air line and piston) the acoustic reed
warning device away from the inhalation side of the breathing bag. When
there is no cylinder pressure, or the cylinder is turned off e.g an
entrapment procedure, the flap with the acoustic reeds closes over the
inhalation valve and thus lets the user know their situation.
