The Diluent Air bottle was
mounted because there was a need for escape apparatus from submarines at
50 meters depth. The compressed air as a diluent was used for the first
inflation of the counterlung in case the rescue started with empty
lungs. It seems that in 1911 is was already a well known fact at Draeger
that oxygen should not be breathed pure at depth greater than 20 mtrs. |
