Additional info was sent by Mr Simon Snape on 14-06-2004

In addition to Mines Rescue this pattern of Breathing apparatus was in widespread use with local Authorities Fire Brigades in the UK till the late 1960's some lasting into the 1970's. Sets with one (I believe) two (normal) and four hours duration could be found in different Brigades. Chesghire Fire Brigade used 4 hour sets because of the potential fro ship incidents along the Mersey and Manchester Ship canal.

The sets were replaced from the mid sixties by compressed air sets which were easier and more comfortable to use if providing much shorter duration.

Thanks a great site!!
